Welcome to OBYC

The Board of Governors of the Ocean Beach & Yacht Club, a private beach club, welcomes you to our community and to our web site.  Situated on a barrier island in Ocean County, New Jersey, OBYC is conveniently located to the New York and Philadelphia metropolitan areas.  OBYC is a family oriented beach community that consists of 490 single-family homes.

Story time on the beach!

Thanks to Kate M. and the recently donated children's library, we now have story time on the beach.  Check with Kate or Pat Daley for the story time schedule.

If you cannot attend the meeting, please be sure to designate a voting proxy to ensure that your votes are counted.  Mail the voting proxy to the Club secretary, per the instructions in the recent mailing.  Your vote counts!

60th Anniversary Christmas Ornaments

As we near the end of the summer season, be sure to buy your OBYC 60th Anniversary Christmas Ornaments.  They make a great gift for family and friends that have enjoyed OBYC.  Ornaments may be purchased at the clubhouse, or by contacting Donna Skwarek.  Don't forget to check out the new OBYC clothing and accessories, which also makes a great gift idea.

Fall Workday
September 6 – 9:00 AM

Reserve the date - we could really use your help to prepare the Club for the off season.  Workdays are a great way to meet other members.  There are jobs for everyone - pick something that you'd like to do.  Kids are also welcome to help out.  Join us afterwards for a hot lunch, snacks, and dessert!  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Movies on the Beach
July 24, 2007

OBYC is extremely grateful for the Stephanie Zagata Neglia Memorial donation of the outdoor movie screen and equipment.  Thanks to Stephanie's family and generous donations by our members, families can now enjoy childrens movies on the beach.  If you haven't been to the last two movie nights, you really should make a point of joining us for the next movie.  The jumbo screen and sound system are spectacular!  A perfect way to spend the evening with the family.

Special thanks to Eric Neglia for this wonderful idea, and for researching and purchasing the movie equipment.  Stephanie, Eric, Riley and Jack enjoyed a similar setup at Disney World, and thought it would be a great idea for our OBYC children to share a special night with their families on the beach.  Thanks to Donna Skwarek and the Special Events committee for organizing the movie nights.

Junior Lifeguard Program
July 17, 2008

Twice each week our lifeguards provide lifeguard training for our youngsters in the community.  The children are taught lifesaving drills in the ocean and bay, kayak and paddleboard use, relay races, and exercises.  This week, the training was provided by Mike Barrett and Mark DeLorenzo.

OBYC Clothing on Sale

Check out the new line of OBYC clothing!  There's something for everyone - polo shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, hats, etc.  The clothing is on display and for sale in the clubhouse, as well as on the north end of the beach on Sundays.  On Thursdays, stop by the clubhouse during ice cream night to place your order.  Items can be ordered in other colors and sizes.

Protect Your Skin From Harmful Sun Rays

OBYC would like to remind its members, guests, and employees of the importance of using sunscreen to prevent skin cancer.  Recently, our lifeguards and badge checkers had the opportunity for a free skin cancer screening by a local physician, Dr. O'Grady.  We greatly appreciate Dr. O'Grady donating his time for this very important service to our community.

Please Drive Safely Around OBYC

Remember...

• Speed Limit is 10 MPH

• Where there's a rolling ball, there's a running child.

• Look both ways on Rt 35 for bicycles and pedestrians.

• Pull out of driveways slowly.

• Be attentive for children playing in yards.

• Remind your guests and renters of the above to ensure safety for all.

Each year the membership votes for three new Board members for those terms that are expiring in September.  If you're interested in serving on the Board, please fill out a Candidate Profile form and mail it to the Club's P.O. box by August 1st.  The form may be obtained from the Members section of the website.
